Erbil L5

Erbil L5 is a biological weapon targeting crops developed in B3W by an ABN affiliated nation, it's speculated to be one of the triggers for World War 3.    

During the main story it reemerges once again annihilating 3/10 of the world's agriculture while sparing only the ABN's crops, because of this the other factions demand retribution against the ABN, causing more military tension.

Because of ABN crops being untouched every faction assumed that they were behind the release of the virus, making even WW4 more likely despite Miyao's efforts to uphold the walls of peace.

He brings up the possibility that the attack was done by war mongers who want World War 4, by setting up the ABN as the obvious culprit.

Areas affected in the initial Erbil Release as mentioned:

        -Russia

        -Saudi arabia

        -North Western India

        -Yemen

        -Oman

        -Parts of North Africa

At the very epicenter of Erbil's influence is LATO Azerbaijan

At the beginning of A3W during the forming of the factions, Azerbaijan was threatened by the AOU, COU and ABN to join them, so they reached out to LATO, becoming the first LATO country outside of Latin America, and making it a neighbor of three out of four great factions. A Perfect place release a bioweapon that would not reach your mainland.

The first wave of Erbil was stopped thanks to someone leaking it's data allowing for LATO to create a counter measure, coincidentally, it was developed right as Erbil reached the coast of North and South America.

It's stated many times throughout the story that it's impossible to develop a biological weapon or a malicious 8ms in secret. Since it requires massive amounts of money and human resources and every lab on earth is under strict observation by the other factions and the IPMA. It's impossible for a bioweapon or an 8ms to be developed without LATO's knowledge. So either they knew that someone was developing Erbil and let it happen or they did it themselves.
